Interview

How do you like Kiyomizu-dera?

We loved it. It was beautiful. The shrines are really big and very beautiful.

Why did you come to Kiyomizu-dera?

Well, we always heard about it and we always wanted to come here, and we had the opportunity so we came. Your teacher talked about it. Yes, we learned about it in school, in global studies, so it was interesting seeing it myself.

Have you been anywhere else in Japan?

Tokyo, mostly visiting family.

What do you like most about Japan?

Wow, that's a big question. I like my wife the best about Japan. She's very Japanese (laughs). She's amazing. What do we like the most about Japan? What do you guys think? Food and… The food. The energy surrounding the buildings and people. And the culture, too. We love the city because there's such a great sense of history here, and feel for history. Tokyo was a little chaotic for us. We're from Manhattan so we're used to that so it was pretty normal, but this is gorgeous. This is gorgeous. Just the sense of the atmosphere, and the sense of time, it's all very alive.
